HALLOWEEN SCARE TRAIL

What draws me to the paranormal genre?
There are so many answers to that question, but I'll try to answer as best as I can. What draws me to the paranormal genre is the lack of rules. There simply aren't any. You can write whatever you can imagine. If you want your werewolves to be vegans, then they can be vegans. That would actually be quite funny. Or how about a vampire that faints at the sight of blood (I wrote that in "Wolf's Bane").
I once got into an argument with a friend who insisted vampires could not walk in daylight. Apparently, everyone knew that. It just wasn't done. My side of the argument was that vampires could walk in daylight, if you wrote them that way, and I have. I've also written stories where they can't walk in daylight.
Again, there are no rules. If you can think it, you can write it. The "paranormal world" is a blank slate. Go. Imagine. Create. Inspire.

I really enjoy when authors change the status quo of paranormal characters. I feel like those books keep me more engaged because I'm trying to understand and piece together this new world that has been built. I love your books!

I love reading different genre but mostly MM paranormals. The 1st that attracts me is the blurb, then the story and lastly if I enjoyed and love the certain story, I began to love that author. You're one of my favorite authors. Thanks for the books. Happy Halloween.

I love the imagination authors put into the paranormal genre. I’m not a huge Halloween fan myself but I love Halloween movies. Hocus Pocus, Halloween, etc.

Thankfully I can read English as in Spain we don't have this kind of books and I love them.

I love most paranormal books. The books with werewolves, bears and vampires are my favorite.

Patanormals is a world that I love there is no something about them. To be a creature of the night or a shifter it's that way of drifting away to a unique place. lovelybunny40@gmail.com

Thanks for writing no rules paranormal stories. It means you can have the world match what your story needs. No getting tied up in other peoples rules. Where would your wonderful Tri-Omega Mates be if wolves could only have one mate. And Omega's don't have to be weaklings.
I love escaping into your fictional worlds. mouse63aus at yahoo dot com

I love reading the different worlds in paranormal romance. Each one is different or not as the author wants. That is the joy of it. Thanks so much for doing things your way.

I love paranormal especially during Halloween. You never know what one of your favorite authors will add to a character. It’s amazing what one person will do from person to person...... there are no two alike!

I love paranormal for many reasons but I suppose I never stopped to consider the freedom in writing PNR stories. And your blood phobic vampire story sounds awesome!

I’ve got to say thank you to you, Miss Glenn, as your book series, Dark Court got me into absolutely loving Elves! It took off from there 😊

I love reading anything paranormal. The imagination of the authors is amazing. I love comparing and contrasting each author's view on things like vampires and werewolves and everything. I enjoy reading about shifters and magic users and how they deal with each situation that comes up. Nothing is ordinary or typical about the paranormal genre no matter the author which is what I love about it.

Paranormal, yes: anything, everything, it's all good! Horror, not so much. So many of the horror tropes are triggering to me, and the rest are a combination of gross-out, jump scares, etc. Pyschological horror... eh. I enjoyed "Unbreakable" and "Split" and I'll probably take a peek at "Glass," but they're really right at the edge for me. I kinda require some sort of HEA. :)

Urban Smoothie Read said...

It seems like when more author follow the same rules and trend, we start to assume is the truth. I admit whenever I read or watch a vampire being out in the blazing sun, I will question it. But I also want author to be bold and create something new. Vampires are written to death. Can we have another sexy paranormal creature?

Unknown said...

The reason that I love the paranormal or tales of the supernatural is that (to steal a quote from Lydia) "I myself am strange and unusual." Halloween to me is a celebration and recognition of people just like me.

Serena S. said...

I love paranormal and how different the worlds created can be.

Lennis said...

I like unique takes on lore. Why would you want all vampires (or any creature) to be the same? I read all the things: sometimes the "monsters" are the good guys, sometimes the bad. That's the fun.

Denise Dechene said...

Love to read about Vampires, and Fae, and shifters. The paranormal world is fascinating, especially as it's written about so differently by authors.

Thank you for the post! I think so too because of the lack of rules it's always a nice surprise when your reading and think you know how the story will turn out and then a twist is thrown in or you think you know the character and they turn out not as they appear to be.

Diane_D said...

I love it when an urban fantasy or paranormal novel can surprise me, with either an interesting and little-known mythology from some other part of the world, or something completely and brilliantly original. I think it's the twist on an otherwise familiar setting that makes the genre appeal to me so much.

Unknown said...

It's your world and anything you want goes there. Why should all paranormals be the same? what fun would that be?

I often call myself a Fantasy fan, but really it's paranormals that hold my heart.

Unknown said...

Everyone has a different imagination, so some people hold to vampires only go out at night and others allow shifters to convert their lovers to shifters. I enjoy that you do not conform to the norms. I love reading different perspectives on vamps, cowboys, etc. I love that you keep religion in your books as well because God loves everyone.

AiboPals said...

I love when someone tries a new twist on the norm,

Cathy Brockman said...

I like new twists on the old things such as squeamish vampires, ones that walk in daylight I think it’s all in how the story is written. Thank you for the chance!

I love paranormal. It's what I read m/m and m/f most. And also it's one of the few genres read AND watch along with comedy and sci-fi. I loved to watch Buffy and Angel, Xena and Hercules, Charmed and Supernatural. 💚🦇🐺💜
I wish I could use my other email I don't really use Google 😑

Paranormal world is whatever authors want it to be. One universe might be different from the others as an author’s creative might take the story to different path. That’s why it’s called fiction right? And that’s the way I like it.

Sharon L said...

I like reading different authors ideas of what constitutes paranormal - there isn't really any one particular right way. It can be anything. Thats what I like about reading it.

Claudia said...

What I truly enjoy in my paranormal readings is the world building; how you need to learn the rules for this new, sometimes exciting, sometimes scary new world.

I love to be surprised :P

Linda A. said...

I like knowing the rules. So as long as the "rules" in a paranormal are clear and consistent throughout, I don't really care (too much) what they are.
